In April 2023, it was announced that Lizzo and Amazon Studios had agreed to extend their first-look deal as Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls began searching for prospective participants who could both sing and dance.

Vernon Sanders, who serves as co-head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, echoed the sentiments of the famous performer. “Lizzo is one of the most exciting, creative, joyful artists in the industry, and the impact of her Emmy award-winning series Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls exceeded our every expectation,” the executive said. “We are excited to continue our relationship with Lizzo and can’t wait for our global Prime Video audience to experience what’s next.”
Casting was reportedly open online until April 9, 2023. However, in August 2023, three backup dancers sued Lizzo for, among other things, alleged sexual, religious, and racial harassment. In September of that year, she faced a second lawsuit on similar charges. Lizzo has vehemently denied the allegations in both instances, and it is unclear as of December 2023 whether these lawsuits would have any impact on the future of Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. If they don’t, the series will probably return with its sophomore season in early to mid-2024.
