Since the series presents a fictional dramatization of Queen Elizabeth II’s life and showcases her political reign involving personal events, many viewers presumed that the series would go on until the moment of her death in 2022.
For those unaware, Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. According to a death certificate made public after her passing, she died of old age. But this was never intended to be shown in The Crown Season 6.
Before the final season, we already knew that it would depict the few months that would lead to Princess Diana’s tragic demise in 1997. After that, it would only cover the events until 2005, involving Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee in 2002 and the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005, among a few others.
