What does Black Flash do in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Black Flash is a distortion in space that happens when cursed energy is applied to a physical strike or hit within one millionth of a second. When this happens, the user’s cursed energy turns black and there are sparks. This becomes a great power-up to a user’s normal strike. When they use Black Flash, the destructive power of their hit is multiplied by 2.5.
Black Flash isn’t easy to pull off since it needs remarkable concentration skills. According to Nanami, when one accomplishes a Black Flash for the first time, the user gets “in the zone” — a state where controlling cursed energy turns into something simple like breathing. Because of this, the user brings out 120% of their maximum potential.
Not even Gojo can do the technique at will. He thinks that the definition of Black Flash being a distortion in space is lackluster because if that was the case, then he could do it whenever. He explains that if he imbues his fist with cursed energy and punches, the cursed energy would either:
- Strengthen his fist
- Hit the opponent
- Both of the above
While the timing matters, the blend varies. Gojo says he’s the only one who can control the third type. He adds the blend changes depending on things like one’s physical condition or the opponent’s cursed energy. He believes the temperature and humidity matter too, since Black Flash is a spatial phenomenon.
Gojo says there’s no single correct way to unleash a Black Flash.

Black Flash Record in JJK
There is a record for those who have used Black Flash consecutively. Yuji Itadori holds the current record for the most number of Black Flashes, which is eight.
Nanami holds the previous record of four consecutive Black Flashes, which were done during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons in Kyoto. Itadori was initially tied with Nanami for the most number of Black Flashes. The first time was after Todo taught him how to control his cursed energy while timing it with his punches. He did four while they were fighting Hanami.
Gojo also has a record of four Black Flashes in his fight with Sukuna. Sukuna also holds a record of four. As of Chapter 257, Yuji managed to land eight Black Flashes while fighting Sukuna.
