With Godzilla Minus One performing well in theaters, fans are interested to find out when it will be leaving cinema screens. Here’s all you need to know about Godzilla Minus One’s theatrical run, and when you should catch a screening.
When will Godzilla Minus One stop being shown in movie theaters?
Godzilla Minus One initially got a limited release, but extended its theatrical run in the second week. Now, it’s expected to continue playing until the last week of December in limited theaters.
Arriving on December 1 in US theaters, Godzilla Minus One shattered the box office records by becoming the highest-grossing foreign movie in its first weekend. The Toho film brought in $11.4 million in the first 3 days, beating the record of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba. Furthermore, these opening weekend numbers even outgrossed Godzilla Minus One’s Japanese opening of $7.8 million.
It’s worth noting that Godzilla Minus One had a limited release, playing only on 2308 theater screens. Meanwhile, other big blockbuster events get wider theatrical releases playing on over 3600 theater screens. However, the aforementioned success of the Japanese Gojira outing led to it getting an extended run until December 14, 2023.
After that, the number of theaters playing the film will diminish as upcoming movies such as Wonka and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will take over theatrical screens nationwide.
A few hundred theaters across the nation are still expected to offer limited screenings until the last week of December. So you could still try your luck then. But, the best time to watch Godzilla Minus One in theaters would be between December 8 – December 14, 2023.
