The ending to A Nearly Normal Family features many big reveals, which might be tricky for some viewers to understand. Thankfully, this post is here to explain the ending and divulge the spoilers. Here’s what happens at the end of A Nearly Normal Family on Netflix.
What happens at the end of A Nearly Normal Family?
Towards the end, Stella Sandell is proven innocent in the case of murdering Christopher Olsen after the testimony of her best friend, Amina.
Stella’s entire case depended upon Amina’s testimony, and the series built up to it right until the very end. Sitting in court, Amina revealed that on the night of Chris Olsen’s murder, she was drugged and sexually abused by him. But soon after the act, she went back home and heard about Chris’ demise the next morning. She further assured the court that Stella was not guilty and was incapable of murder.
The prosecution, on the other hand, presented evidence of Stella’s presence in the vicinity but couldn’t provide any real proof to support their claim of Stella being the one who stabbed Chris to death. So, due to a lack of evidence, the accused was proven innocent in a court of law and got to walk home free.
Who Killed Christopher in A Nearly Normal Family?
Despite the verdict of the court, the ending of the show revealed that it was indeed Stella who had murdered Chris after saving her friend.
Towards the very end, we saw Stella finally taking the trip she was saving up for. Walking into a church, she remembered the night of Chris Olsen’s murder. When she broke into Chris’ apartment, she witnessed him sexually abusing Amina and immediately tried to save her. First, she pepper sprayed him in the eyes, which was followed by a hit on the head with a pepper grinder.
The two girls then ran out of the apartment and Chris ran after them with a knife. But in his pursuit, he tripped and Stella stabbed and left him, while he bled to death. However, the murder weapon was never found as Ulrika had already gotten rid of it and all other pieces of evidence that could have incriminated her daughter.
Furthermore, she orchestrated Amina’s testimony in the way it was delivered when the latter had come clean about what had really happened that night. By not mentioning Stella’s presence in Chris’ apartment, Amina was able to introduce the possibility of an alternative culprit, which allowed Stella to be proven innocent.
