New Fantastic Four casting rumors continue to fuel speculation amongst the Marvel fandom. But the latest one leaves fans asking about Silver Surfer in particular. Could they be female in the MCU iteration, or will Marvel introduce another version of the character from the comics besides Norrin Rad? Here’s all you need to know.
Will Silver Surfer be female in MCU’s Fantastic Four?
A new scoop from credible insider Jeff Sneider states that Fantastic Four could feature a female Silver Surfer.
Rumors about Silver Surfer’s presence in Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four have been prevalent for the better part of 2023. But industry insider Jeff Sneider recently appeared on another episode of The Hot Mic with Jeff Sneider and John Rocha, where he talked about the Fantastic Four cast.
He called out the names of the main cast members who are in contention to portray Marvel’s first family. But he continued saying, “And yes, you can expect to see a female Silver Surfer.”
It’s worth noting that the MCU has swapped the sex of plenty of characters, including Ghost, Mar-Vell, Taskmaster, Makkari, Flag Smasher, Morgan Stark, Sprite, Ajak, and The Ancient One. So, turning another familiar character to make the cast more diverse wouldn’t be something new for Marvel.
But even though Sneider’s scoops have turned out to be right in the past, we need to take this new one with a grain of salt. After all, it doesn’t come from an official Marvel source.
However, if the latest Silver Surfer scoop turns out to be true, then it’ll be interesting to see if Norrin Rad is turned into a female with a new name or if the female Silver Surfer from the comics is brought to life.
Will the new Silver Surfer be Juno or Norrin Rad?
If MCU’s Silver Surfer turns out to be female, then Juno from the comics could be the version that Marvel chooses to introduce instead of Norrin Rad. But nothing is confirmed at the moment.
Most Marvel fans would be aware that Norrin Rad became the Silver Surfer when he agreed to be the herald of Galactus. But on Earth-829, Juno offered herself to become Galactus’ new herald after her grandfather Hercules made a sacrifice to save the Andromeda Galaxy. Accepting her as his new herald, she was turned into the Silver Surfer by Galactus.
Since the Fantastic Four are expected to come in through the Multiverse, the Silver Surfer from their universe could be inspired by Juno. But all of that depends on whether Sneider’s scoop turns out to be true.
