Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a highly anticipated Disney+ series headed our way. But is it linked to the previous Logan Lerman movies or is it a reboot? Here’s all you need to know about Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ connection with the original Fox movies and whether it is a remake.
Is Percy Jackson and the Olympians a remake or reboot?
The Percy Jackson and the Olympians Disney+ series is a reboot based on Rick Riordan’s young adult novel series.
The books originally got two movies, but are now getting a remake series from Disney+. It starts a new story in the same chronological release order as the books, which have been listed below:
- Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2005)
- Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters (2006)
- Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Titan’s Curse (2007)
- Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Battle of the Labyrinth (2008)
- Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Last Olympian (2009)
- Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Chalice of the Gods (2023)
So, season 1 is based on The Lightning Thief where a 12-year-old Percy Jackson finds out that he is secretly a demigod, being the son of the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon. But as he learns about his abilities, he gets accused of stealing the lightning bolt of Zeus. With the help of his friends, he goes on a journey to prove his innocence and restore Olympus.
Is the Percy Jackson Disney Plus series linked to the movies?
No, the Percy Jackson Disney Plus series is not linked to Logan Lerman’s Percy Jackson movies. It is a remake featuring a different cast.
After Riodan’s book became a smash hit, Fox released “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” movie in 2010. It was followed by a sequel called “Sea of Monsters,” based on the second book.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 will remain true to the source material and have no relation to the movies. Instead of Logan Lerman, Walker Scobell plays Percy Jackson in the latest adaption. The rest of the cast is also different with the lead characters being much younger.
