Where and when does Madame Web take place in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe?
While Madame Web is a part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, it takes place in a new universe than the previous Venom and Morbius movies.
As per the official synopsis of Madame Web, it takes place in a different universe and isn’t a part of the same world as Venom and Morbius. The synopsis reads:
“Meanwhile, in another universe…” In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures…if they can all survive a deadly present.”
So, like the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movies, Madame Web is also set on a different Earth than Venom and Morbius, or even the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
How is Madame Web connected to Venom & Morbius?
Madame Web takes place in a different universe than Venom and Morbius. But her connection to the Web of Life and Destiny could connect her to Venom and Morbius’ universe.
The text that appears throughout the first trailer of Madame Web reads: “Her web connects them all.” Now, even though the trailer refers to a connection between Dakota Johnson’s Cassandra Webb and the other three Spider-Women, Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin, and Anya Corazon, she could connect to the entire Spider-Verse.
In the film, she seems to have clairvoyant abilities. But in the comics, the source of those powers is her strong connection to the Web of Life and Destiny, which further connects several Spider-Totems in different universes. Through this web, she could form a connection with the Venomverse if needed in the future.
