Netflix’s psychological thriller series Ratched serves as an origin story for Mildred Ratched, the ruthless nurse from Miloš Forman’s 1975 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and its source material, Ken Kesey’s 1962 namesake novel. Created by Evan Romansky and developed by Ryan Murphy, Ratched follows a younger Mildred Ratched as she joins the staff of a mental institution in Northern California in 1947. Is there a Ratched Season 2 release date?
There is no Ratched Season 2 release date and the future of the series is unclear. ComingSoon will provide an update if and when season 2 is announced.
In September 2017, Netflix ordered the development of two seasons of Ratched as part of the streamer’s deal with Ryan Murphy. The series garnered a mixed-to-positive response from the critics, though it was quite successful in terms of viewership numbers. However, it wasn’t as big of a hit as some of the projects Murphy developed for Fox. In fact, it is only with his recent Netflix releases, such as Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher, that he has managed to replicate the success of his previous works.
In an August 2022 interview with Variety, actress Sarah Paulson, who portrays the eponymous character, stated that she didn’t know whether Season 2 was still in the works or not. The entire thing has become further complicated with the news of Murphy leaving Netflix for Disney, which acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019. The news came out in June 2023, though the deal had been apparently in the making for some time. This puts a big question mark on the future of not only Ratched but also Murphy’s other Netflix projects.
