Community: The Movie is an upcoming comedy film slated to stream on Peacock. Although the plot is strictly under wraps, it can be speculated that the film will be a continuation of the story depicted in Community, the TV series, over the course of six seasons and follow the mismatched group of students at Greendale Community College in Colorado. If you are wondering when the film is coming out, we got you covered.
Here’s all the Community: The Movie release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.
Is there a Community: The Movie release date?
Community: The Movie’s release date could arrive sometime in 2025.
The Community fans have rallied for six seasons and a movie for a long time. In June 2014, Zack Van Amburg, who was an executive at Sony at the time, told The Hollywood Reporter that they were making a Community film. However, after the filming for season 6 concluded, series creator Dan Harmon said at an event that he had informed Yahoo (season 6 originally aired on Yahoo! Screen; Community was originally an NBC series) that he couldn’t think about writing a movie until he missed Community.
Over the years, Harmon and the cast members indicated that the film was happening. Eventually, in 2021, Harmon revealed that he had begun working on the film’s script. In September 2022, Peacock announced that the film would stream on the platform. Harmon was slated to write the script with Andrew Guest, and all the main cast members were set to return except Yvette Nicole Brown and Chevy Chase (who portrays Pierce Hawthorne in the show). Harmon later reportedly confirmed that Brown would appear in the film. However, Chase, whose character died off-screen in season 5, is unlikely to return.
Donald Glover affirmed that he was part of the film in April 2023. Joel McHale said at Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January 2023 that production would begin in June, but it was delayed due to the 2023 WGA strike. In June 2023, McHale said at the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast that filming for Community: The Movie would likely start in mid-2024.
Although WGA has ended its strike since then, the actors are still on strike, and that can potentially delay production. Either way, it’s safe to assume the film will come out sometime in 2025.
This date is an estimation based on the information we have at the time of this writing.
The cast of the Community TV series includes Joel McHale as Jeff Winger, Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry, Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir, Yvette Nicole Brown as Shirley Bennett, Alison Brie as Annie Edison, Donald Glover as Troy Barnes, Ken Jeong as Ben Chang, Jim Rash as Craig Pelton, and more.
