What happened in the end credits scene of the final episode of Attack on Titan? The finale aired over the weekend, and some viewers might have questions about the post-credits scene. Here is the AoT end credits explained.
Attack on Titan end credits explained
Some significant amount of time has passed and a long-haired Mikasa is sitting under the tree where Eren’s grave lies. She thinks about Eren and starts to cry, saying that she wants to see him again. Suddenly, a bird appears and wraps Mikasa’s scarf around her. The bird symbolizes Eren and how he used to be the one to wrap Mikasa’s scarf around her. Mikasa smiles and thanks Eren for wrapping the scarf.
More time passes, and Mikasa continues visiting Eren’s grave. Later on, she grows old. While she seems to be accompanied by a man, there’s no direct confirmation of whether this is her husband or not. Eventually, she passes away and is buried with the same type of flowers Eren had on his grave.
The exact amount is not specified, but hundreds or maybe even thousands of years pass by. We see this in the credits as buildings develop behind the tree where Eren’s grave is. It looks like there’s some sort of war happening again due to the buildings getting bombed. More time passes as the tree grows more and Eren’s tombstone is no longer upright. Multiple missiles proceed to completely obliterate the destroyed city in the background. The scene switches to a post-apocalyptic setting where the remnants of the destroyed buildings are covered in plant life.
Suddenly, we see a young boy and a dog wandering the place. The kid ends up in front of an incredibly tall tree with an opening at the bottom of it. The tree looks very similar to the tree in Ymir’s backstory. The ending implies that history is simply going to repeat itself.
Who is the boy at the end credits of Attack on Titan?
There is actually no direct answer about the boy’s identity. Fans speculate that the kid is related to either Mikasa or Eren, but there’s no confirmation regarding that. It’s likely that the child is a representation of the far future, long after Eren’s time.
