With the development of Thunderbolts picking up steam after the WGA strike, fans are inquisitive about Steven Yeun’s role in the new MCU movie. Is he playing Sentry and The Void? Will he be the main villain? Here’s all you need to know.
Is Steven Yeun playing Sentry in the MCU Thunderbolts?
Yes, Steven Yeun has reportedly been cast as Robert Reynolds, aka Sentry in MCU’s Thunderbolts.
While Marvel hasn’t officially revealed it, scoops from reliable sources such as Grace Randolph and CanWeGetSomeToast have stated that the “Beef” actor is playing Sentry in the movie. The latter source further suggested that he would be a part of the Thunderbolts team for the first two acts alongside Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, John Walker, Alexie Shostakov, and Antonia Dreykov.
It’s also rumored that his origin will involve a new version of the Super Soldier serum, and Val will be responsible for his creation.
Is Sentry the main villain of Thunderbolts?
Yes, Sentry is rumored to be the main villain of Thunderbolts.
As per the aforementioned tweet, the Sentry will break apart from the team and turn into the film’s main antagonist.
He would be the most powerful “Super Soldier” ever created, taking on an entire team of super soldiers potentially led by Yelena and Bucky. Further rumors also state that his version of the super soldier serum will alter his brain and turn him into The Void.
How are Sentry and The Void related?
The Void is Sentry’s dark alter-ego in the comics.
Sentry is among Marvel’s strongest characters, possessing abilities such as flight, superhuman speed, strength, agility, reflexes, stamina, durability, molecular manipulation, photokinesis, biokinesis, and multiple other powers.
However, he also has a drawback as he suffers from dissociative identity disorder. After consuming the serum in the books, a dark alternate personality called The Void was created by his own psyche. When The Void takes over, Reynolds can completely lose control and go berserk.
So, to prevent the emergence of this alter-ego, Robert Reynolds asks Doctor Strange to make him and the rest of the world forget about Sentry and The Void’s existence.
