Created by Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Wibberley (the husband and wife screenwriting team known together as the Wibberleys), National Treasure: Edge of History is an action-adventure series that serves as a spin-off and sequel to the National Treasure films starring Nicolas Cage. The series revolves around Jess Valenzuela, a Baton Rogue-based young DACA woman, who discovers her familial connection to a grand Mesoamerican treasure and tries to hunt for it. Is there a National Treasure: Edge of History Season 2 release date?
There is no National Treasure: Edge of History Season 2 release date as the series was canceled after season 1.
In April 2023, about two months after the season 1 finale aired, Disney canceled National Treasure: Edge of History. The Wibberleys were the screenwriters of both the first (with Jim Kouf) and second National Treasure films. Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel reprised their roles from the films as Riley Poole and Peter Sadusky, respectively, in the show. In December 2022, The Wibberleys expressed hope to bring other actors from the films to the series, but that’s not going to happen now.
The series creators took to Instagram to address the fans after the cancellation. “We are so incredibly honored and humbled to have shared this journey with the immensely talented and hardworking #nationaltreasureseries team,” they wrote in a lengthy post. “From our dream cast to our awesome writers room to our incredible producing partners and to our amazing crew—we’ve been truly blessed. We can’t thank ABC Signature and Disney Plus enough for giving us this opportunity of a lifetime and helping us all along the way.”
The Wibberleys continued, “And to everyone who watched the show, thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. Y’all have no idea how much all your messages of support and love [mean] to us. We’re sad the hunt is over, but here’s hoping the answer to “What’s on Page 47?” is in the franchise’s near future! That’s a wrap on an extraordinary chapter in our lives. It was a rollercoaster.”
