The upcoming project was first announced at the New York Comic Con 2023. A special teaser trailer was released during the Dragon Ball panel, and the fall 2024 premiere date for the anime was announced. A letter from Toriyama, in which he explained the unusual title, was subsequently shared on screen. “Daima is a made-up term… in English would be something like evil,” the letter said.
In the letter, Toriyama proceeded to offer a few hints about the plot of the upcoming series. “Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small,” he wrote. “In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious new world. Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Nyoibo (Power Pole) to fight, something not seen in a long time. I came up with the story and settings, as well as a lot of the designs. I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual.”
If the teaser trailer is anything to go by, Dragon Ball: Daima will feature all the fan-favorite characters, albeit in their younger and smaller forms. As Masako Nozawa, the Japanese voice actress for Goku, made an appearance at the event, even closing the Dragon Ball panel by performing the Kamehameha pose, it’s probably safe to assume that she is part of the upcoming series.
