The Sympathizer’s release date is expected to arrive by 2024.
In April 2021, it was reported that A24 and Rhombus Media had acquired the rights to The Sympathizer and that Park Chan-wook (Oldboy and The Handmaiden) and Don McKellar (Last Night, Childstar) were slated to serve as the showrunners on the project. Nguyen took to Twitter (now known as X) to share the news. In April 2023, HBO released a first-look trailer for the series slated to premiere sometime in 2024 at the Warner Bros. Discovery press event announcing the Max / HBO Max streaming service rebranding. This date is an estimation based on the information we have at the time of this writing.
The cast includes Hoa Xuande as the Captain, Fred Nguyen Khan as Bon, Toan Le as the General, Ky Duyen as Madame, Sandra Oh as Ms. Sofia Mori, Robert Downey Jr. in several antagonist roles, and more.
