Is there a Descendants 4 release date?
Descendants 4 could arrive by early 2024.
In August 2021, Lauren Kisilevsky, the then-Senior Vice President of Original Movies at Disney Branded Television, hinted that there were plans for a fourth Descendants film. On September 21, 2021, the project was officially confirmed as it was part of an overall deal that Disney signed with the production company of Gary Marsh, the former Disney Branded Television president.
The film went into development under the working title The Pocketwatch. In March 2023, the film’s director, Jennifer Phang, announced on Instagram that filming had wrapped. The official title, Descendants: The Rise of Red, was announced later that month.
As production ended before the Hollywood strikes, it likely wasn’t impacted by them. However, these films do contain visual effects, which lengthen the post-production period. For example, filming for Descendants 3 wrapped in July 2018, and it premiered in August 2019. Given this precedence, it can be speculated that Descendants 4 will come out in early 2024.
