Is there an After Life season 4 release date?
There is no After Life season 4 release date as the series has concluded after three seasons.
After Life is Gervais’ first show to receive three seasons. All his previous works — The Office (UK), Extras, and Derek — ended after two seasons. In a July 2020 interview with The Mirror, Gervais made it clear that the third season of After Life would also be the final one.
“I’ve already made my mind up there won’t be a four,” the writer-actor said. “And you do put those things out there to make you remember as it’s tempting but… there’s an old saying that ‘to lead the orchestra, you’ve got to turn your back on the audience.’ That’s true. The audience think they want another one, but they’re not sure. So you’ve got to be careful.”
This was confirmed by Netflix in the weeks leading to the season 3 premiere in a Twitter (now known as X) post. The series ends on a hopeful note, accentuating the very theme of the series: life goes on. In the final scene, the audience sees Tony walking with his dog Brandy in a field. His late wife Lisa briefly walks alongside him before disappearing again, followed by the dog, and eventually Tony himself disappears.
Asked by Radio Times in January 2022 whether there was a possibility for season 4, Gervais said, “Never say never. You never know what’s going to happen. But at the moment, I’m 99% sure this should be it. I don’t think I can top that ending. And it’s not the end. It’s there forever. It’ll always be around. People are watching it for the 10th time. And hopefully, they’re going to be watching it when I’m dead. I think it’s the right decision [to leave it there]. In 10 years’ time, I think I’ll be proved right.”
