Cowboy Bebop Season 2’s release date is largely talked about by fans, who were dedicated to watching the first season. The series revolves around a bounty hunter and his group of skilled comrades, who are aboard a spaceship named Bebop. Is there a Cowboy Bebop Season 2 release date?
Viewers of the series are in for a major disappointment. In December 2021, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Cowboy Bebop was canceled after only a one-season run on Netflix.
This decision came three weeks after the show’s debut on the streaming platform. The publication put critics’ ratings of the series on Rotten Tomatoes, which was only 56%. The viewership ratings also continued to drop.
After the cancellation news surfaced, fans of the show launched a petition in hopes of renewing the series and even got thousands of signatures. However, a petition wasn’t even the closest thing to consider when it came to ratings and viewership for Netflix.
Even the lead actor John Cho was surprised at the series’ cancellation and expressed to The Hollywood Reporter that he’d put his life into it. Apparently, he’d gotten himself injured during the shooting and had to undertake rehab to complete the rest of Season 1. Expressing how shocked about the decision he was, he said, “I felt good about myself as a result. We also shot the show in New Zealand, so my family moved there. It was just a huge event in my life and it was suddenly over.”
Shinichirō Watanabe, the original director of the Japanese anime series, didn’t fancy the live-action Netflix remake. In an interview with Variety, he said, “It started with a scene in a casino, which made it very tough for me to continue. I stopped there and so only saw that opening scene. It was clearly not ‘Cowboy Bebop’… I felt that maybe I should have done this. Although the value of the original anime is somehow far higher now.”
There’s no saving Cowboy Bebop for a second season. Viewers can stream the 10 episodes of Season 1 on Netflix. John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, and Daniella Pineda starred in leading roles. Christopher Yost developed the series.
