After the resounding success and interest in the first two seasons, Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal Season 3’s release date is highly anticipated. The docuseries took on one of the most sensational murder cases in recent years, that of prominent South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh, who was accused of killing his wife and son.

Is there a Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal Season 3 release date?
The first season, which premiered in February 2023, documented the events leading up to the trial. However, the subsequent month Murdaugh was found guilty of the murders and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences. This gave the directors and producers more storylines to explore and dig deeper into the case, leading them into making Season 2.
Now that the trial is over, the docuseries is still basking in the success of its first two installments. However, fans can rest assured that the story is far from over. As per a report by Deadline, when the second season was renewed, it was reported that Murdaugh had pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges in a separate case that alleged he stole money from clients.
Michael Gasparro, one of the executive producers of the show, told Variety that there is more to be explored in the case, especially the fraudulent crimes. He said, “This story is just going to continue to fold over the next decade — all these financial crimes, where’s all the money? There’s so many things that haven’t been told yet that are going to come out over the next 10 years.”
Gasparro was optimistic about Season 3. He said, “There are other things that have happened — either there’s people that are still quiet or eventually the state is going to discover new information. I would say there’s always a possibility for Season 3.”
And there’s definitely a storyline they can make the third season with. On September 21, 2023, CBS News reported that Murdaugh pleaded guilty to 22 counts of financial fraud and money laundering. With this, there is definitely leeway for Season 3, so we’ll have to wait and see how the directors and producers go about it. Michael Gasparro and Julia Willoughby Nason direct and executive produce the docuseries.
