The Mindhunter Season 3 release date is highly anticipated, given how successful it has been for the first two seasons. The series revolves around FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench, who try and catch killers by studying their damaged psyches. This eventually began the development of modern-day serial killer profiling.

Is there a Mindhunter Season 3 release date?
For the loyal Mindhunter fans, this might not be the news they want to hear. In 2020, Netflix announced in a statement to TV Line, stating that the official cast had been released from their contracts, putting an end to a prospective third season: “David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank, and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots. He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime, felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
Although the statement left hope for a potential Season 3 sometime later, it looks highly unlikely, as director David Fincher expressed in several interviews that it became an expensive show and couldn’t be sustained because of low viewership. In an interview with Variety, he said, “I don’t know if it makes sense to continue. It was an expensive show. It had a very passionate audience, but we never got the numbers that justified the cost.”
Along with David, many of the cast members have also moved on to other projects. So even if a new season is to be made, scheduling conflicts will have to be avoided, which might take a considerable amount of time. In January 2020, over 80K fans signed a change.org petition asking the makers to bring the show back. If that is enough to convince them, there is some potential in Season 3.
Currently, it doesn’t look likely, so fans can only hope and pray. Fincher said in his interview with French publication Le Journal du Dimanche, “It’s a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment [for season three].” Sorry Mindhunter fans, looks like this is the end.
