The Legacies Season 5 release date is highly anticipated, owing to the success and popularity of the first four installments. The second spin-off of The Vampire Diaries after The Originals is based on students of the Salvatore School who deal with a multitude of foes in a classic coming-of-age manner into heroes and villains.

Unfortunately, after the fourth season, the series was canceled in May 2022, which came as a shock to its loyal fans. According to a report by Screenrant, the ratings continued to drop in addition to the lack of profitability of The CW, which led to the decision to pull the plug on the series. Since then, several potential storylines for Season 5 that would have come to fruition began to drop.
Showrunner Brett Matthews revealed to the publication that the fifth season would have featured a time jump. He said, “We would have been in a time-jump scenario. I think the fun of the fifth season would be to really take those characters, who had reached such a good place in the school, and then move them beyond it and throw them in lives beyond it and seeing where they were and how they would all find their way back to one another.”
While there were many potential storylines to be explored for Season 5, considering how the fourth season came to an end, there have unfortunately been no updates. Creator Julie Plec revealed that the fifth season would have featured The Vampire Diaries’ Elena and Damon’s daughter Stephanie Salvatore.
The creator also didn’t want the series to come to an end, calling it the Red Wedding at The CW, referring to the Game of Thrones wedding, which led to the death of several characters. In a Twitter post in May 2022, she said, “It’s the Red Wedding at WBTV/CW today. Much more to say, but not today. Loads of gratitude coming for fans, cast, and crew in future tweets. But today, we mourn.”
As of now, Legacies Season 5 isn’t likely to come. However, the storylines have the potential to be further explored in another spin-off. But fans will only have to hope and pray for it to continue, but as of now, nothing is confirmed.
