Does Sister Irene stop Valak in The Nun 2?

Sister Irene does defeat Valak in The Nun 2.

As seen in The Nun, Valak (Bonnie Aarons) remained unvanquished and took possession of Maurice Theriault (Jonas Bloquet), a.k.a. Frenchie, through that reverse cross scar. Accompanied by the young novitiate Sister Debra (Storm Reid), Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) embarks on the harrowing quest to save Frenchie and an all-girl boarding school from the demon’s evil presence. Thanks to the ancient Christian relic of the eyes of Saint Lucy, Sister Irene, who is actually a descendant of the Saint herself, casts out Valak.

All is well that ends well, right? Unfortunately, it’s just a temporary victory for Sister Irene and Frenchie. As 2013’s The Conjuring reveals (whose story is set many years after the events of The Nun 2), Valak won’t stop tormenting Maurice until the man kills himself after attempting to shoot his wife.

Is there a The Nun 3 movie?

Producers haven’t announced The Nun 3 yet.

If you’re hoping for another sequel following Sister Irene, you might have to wait a while. Currently, there is no news about a third installment in what would become The Nun trilogy. If The Nun 2 fares well at the box office, producers might be willing to greenlight another film. Still, The Conjuring Universe fans should expect another installment in the upcoming The Conjuring: Last Rites, which is currently in development.

The Nun 2 will haunt U.S. theaters starting September 8, 2023.
