It seems that we’re on the verge of a Hulu password-sharing crackdown, with folks who share accounts potentially losing access soon. Here’s the need-to-know info about Hulu potentially banning password sharing.
Is Hulu going to ban password sharing in 2023?
Hulu is expected to ban password sharing at the beginning of 2024.
While it seems that password sharers are safe for the remainder of 2023, comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger suggest that 2024 is the year when Disney Plus (and presumably Hulu, as well as other Disney services) will begin to ban the sharing of passwords and accounts. It will be “exploring ways to address account sharing” and begin “tactics to drive monetization.”
While Iger’s comments referred to Disney Plus, it would be unusual to see only one of the Disney services cracking down on password sharing. However, Disney Plus might be the first, with Hulu coming later. The exact details of Disney’s plan have not been revealed.
When will Hulu stop password and account sharing?
Hulu is expected to stop password and account sharing at the start of 2024.
Though it’s expected that Hulu will begin to crack down on multiple users gaining access to the service through one individual account, it’s possible that family plans will be introduced to help soften the blow.
As seen with Netflix earlier this year, the bans worked well to generate millions more subscribers as users were forced to sign up to continue watching content.
While it remains to be seen just how Hulu plans to crack down on password sharing, users have another problem to deal with in the meantime: a price increase. Here are all of the details.
