Gran Turismo is finally speeding into theaters, and some fans wonder about that high-octane ending. Does Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe) manage to become a professional driver from being a simple gamer passionate about Gran Turismo? Here’s what you need to know, and beware of spoilers!
Does Jann win the 24 Hours of Le Mans?
No, Jann doesn’t win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
However, he still gets a very honorable third place for team Nissan, which is quite an accomplishment considering he’s in his first year as a professional driver. Also, the Le Mans race is regarded as a pinnacle event in motorsport. In the story, Jann and the GT Academy members’ skills and endurance are challenged when they decide to race for 24 hours straight. Team Nissan has highs and lows before Jann relies on his gamer experience to develop some unorthodox race lines to improve Nissan’s position in the last laps. Right before the finish line, he goes head-to-head with team Lamborghini, overcoming the long-term rivals.
Does Jann overcome his post-accident fear?
Thanks to the help of Jack Salter, Jann gets past his post-traumatic stress.
It wasn’t an easy road that led Jann to become a race car driver and involved a dramatic incident. During the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Jann sees a car bursting into flames in front of him, bringing back memories of his own incident on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit that resulted in a spectator’s death. After noticing the young pilot looked to be heading to a very dark place, Jack (David Harbour) puts some Kenny G and Enya music that brings Jann back to reality. In an effort, Jann leaves his past behind and keeps driving the Le Mans race.
