The series takes place roughly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones season 1 and showcases the civil wars involving the Targaryens, eventually leading to the fall of House Targaryen. House of the Dragon Season 2 continues to film in the United Kingdom despite the recent SAG-AFTRA strike because it mainly involves British cast members. Hence, the HBO series won’t be affected by the strike and will continue to work as per schedule.
It began filming on April 11, 2023 and is said to wrap up the principal photography between October and September. After that, it would need another 8-10 months in the post-production stage, if not more. After all, even more dragons are supposed to be a part of season 2. So, the VFX department will need a lot of time to perfect the CGI.
Putting all that into consideration, House of the Dragon Season 2 should arrive in the second or the third quarter of 2024. It will likely follow a similar release pattern to season 1, which aired its 10 episodes on August 21, 2022.
