The Extremis Virus has appeared in Secret Invasion, but what is it and will there be Super Skrulls? Here’s the need-to-know information about the compound that first popped up in Iron Man 3. Spoilers ahead!
What is the Extremis Virus in Secret Invasion?
The Extremis Virus in Secret Invasion is able to give the host superheroic powers including healing, heat powers like fire breath, and enhanced strength.
First appearing in the MCU during Iron Man 3, the virus was used by Aldrich Killian to battle Tony Stark. While it worked to enhance some hosts, it was very inconsistent and unstable. Often, hosts would explode, unable to handle the virus.
In Secret Invasion, we see G’iah searching for data on Rosa Dalton, a scientist, which leads her to a catalog that includes information on the Extremis Virus.
Will the Extremis Virus be used to make Super Skrulls?
It’s possible that the Extremis Virus will be used to make the MCU’s version of Super Skrulls.
In episode 2 of Secret Invasion, it’s clear that the enemy wants to make Skrulls stronger. Extremis Virus could be used to do this. It’s also possible that the virus will be more stable within a Skrull host, and less prone to exploding.
Diverting from the comics, the MCU Super Skrull could simply be Skrulls enhanced by the Extremis Virus, giving them the power to heal quickly, utilize heat, and attack with overwhelming force.
We can expect the Skrulls’ plans to be made clear during episodes 3 and 4, where the true threat should be made known. Then, it’s up to the good guys to put a stop to it, if they can!
