The days of “love is sharing a password” are at sunset as fans won’t be able to share their Netflix password with people outside their households anymore. At least, not for free like before. The streamer teased their new password-sharing policy for a while, but the company notified subscribers about the change with an email last week. Now that Netflix made it official the password sharing era’s end is near, people wonder when the new policy will be implemented. Here’s when Netflix password sharing ends in the US, Canada, and the UK.
When Does Netflix Password Sharing End in the US?
The Netflix password sharing end started in the United States on Tuesday, May 23.
The giant streamer announced only people from the same household could keep sharing the same password on their blog. However, adding an extra member by paying an additional $8 to the current subscription plan is possible. Netflix claims to have 232.5 million subscribers worldwide and more than 100 million households share accounts. The new “paid sharing” policy is expected to generate new revenue in the upcoming years. The change comes after Netflix raised the price of its Basic, Standard, and Premium plans from $8.99 to $9.99, $13.99 to $15.49, and $17.99 to $19.99, respectively.
When Does Netflix Password Sharing End in Canada?
Netflix began its crackdown on password sharing in Canada in February.
The streamer implemented “paid sharing” in several countries earlier this year, including Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain, after launching it in Latin American countries in 2022. As for the U.S., extra membership comes at an additional CA$ 7.99 (US $5.94) for up to two people they don’t live with.
When Does Netflix Password Sharing End in the UK?
Password sharing officially ended in the United Kingdom on Tuesday, May 23.
Netflix is taking its crackdown on password sharing worldwide, including in the U.K. The price for an extra member is £4.99, which is currently about $6.20. While it is true the streamer is promoting these new rules, it’s unclear how it will enforce them.
