The Paramount Plus schedule for May 15-21 features Mad Max director George Miller’s latest movie, among the many other new additions fans can watch on the streaming service this week.
On Tuesday, May 16, the streamer will add Three Thousand Years of Longing to its available content. Miller directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Augusta Gore, based on A.S. Byatt’s short story The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye. Idris Elba (The Suicide Squad) and Tilda Swinton (Tár) lead a cast that includes Aamito Lagum, Burcu Gölgedar, and Matteo Bocelli.
Three Thousand Years of Longing debuted in theaters on August 26, 2022. Although it was generally received with positive reviews, the movie bombed at the box office and failed to top its $60 million production budget, grossing around $20 million.
“Dr. Alithea Binnie is an academic, content with life and a creature of reason,” reads the synopsis. “While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real, and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually, she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.”
The film is produced by Miller, Doug Mitchell, and Kennedy Miller Mitchell, with Craig McMahon and Kevin Sun serving as executive producers. It hails from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, FilmNation Entertainment, and United Artists Releasing.
