If you’re looking for ending spoilers for the Borderlands movie you’ve come to the right place. The film came out in theaters on Friday, August 9, and now the fans want to know who the key to the vault is, if Atlas dies, and what is inside the vault.
Here is everything that happens at the end of Borderlands.
What happens in the ending of the Borderlands movie?
The plot of Borderlands predominantly revolves around Lilith (Blanchett). Years after her departure from her native planet of Pandora, she returns to rescue the daughter of the main antagonist, Atlas (Ramírez), and finds camaraderie, adventure, and the very purpose of her life.
After arriving on Pandora, Lilith, who is a bounty hunter, discovers that her employer Atlas has an ulterior motive for wanting his supposed daughter Tina back. In the course of the film, it is revealed that Tina is a clone that Atlas created from the Eridian blood he found. The Eridians were an ancient and presumably extinct alien race that once inhabited Pandora. The Vault in Borderlands supposedly holds the secrets and weapons of this civilization, which is exactly what Atlas is after.
Lilith joins forces with mercenary soldier Roland and Psycho Krieg and takes on the Crimson Lance, Atlas’ private army, and a tribe of Psychos. After the end of a conversation between Atlas and Lilith, Tina falsely concludes that the latter has betrayed her and the other Vaunt Hunters. She subsequently uses a grenade to render Lilith unconscious.
When the Vault Hunters eventually find the Vault, they learn that Atlas has already located it. After Tina fails to open it, Lilith arrives. It turns out that she is not only an Eridian but an incarnation of their deity Firehawk. Lilith opens the Vault, establishing herself as the key in the process.
After Lilith defeats Atlas with the help of her allies, it is implied that she will stay on Pandora with Tina and the others.
What was inside the vault in Borderlands?
As mentioned above, it is believed that the Vault contains weapons developed by the Eridians. In the climactic scene, the protagonists and the main villain encounter a colossal creature. In the games, this creature is known as the Destroyer, a gigantic, intergalactic entity that has a massive mouth and several tentacles. The Eridian civilization was supposedly eradicated while trying to contain the Destroyer.
Does Atlas die in the Borderlands movie?
Yes, Atlas dies toward the end of Borderlands. For most of the film, he mistakenly believes that Tina can open the Vault as she potentially has Eridian blood. The revelation that Lilith is the new incarnation of Firehawk catches him by surprise. He tries to take Tina hostage to force Lilith to open the Vault. However, Lilith succeeds in protecting Tina and leaves Atlas in the Vault, prompting the creature inside to kill him.
Who programs Claptrap to assist Lilith?
Lilith’s mother programmed Claptrap the robot to assist Lilith in Borderlands. Lilith’s mother always wanted to protect her and knew that she was the key to opening the Vault. Accordingly, when Lilith returns to Pandora, she discovers that Claptrap has been waiting for her all this time.
