America’s Got Talent Reid Wilson, a 14-year-old singer from Alabama, earned the coveted Golden Buzzer from Howie Mandel. He won over the judges and the audience with his rendition of “You Don’t Own Me,” showing off his voice control with multiple tricky runs. His surprising song choice and vocal talent are so impressive that some fans want to know more about him, what he’s doing now, and what songs he can sing as the show heads into the semi-finals. Here is what’s happening with Reid Wilson from America’s Got Talent 2024.
Who is America’s Got Talent Reid Wilson?
Reid Wilson is a teen singer who has only recently shared his songs on social media after teaching himself how to sing.
Posting on Instagram as @its_reidthomas, Reid is still in the early stages of his career. In a post on June 26, 2024, he shares that he recorded his first song in Los Angeles. He also notes that his AGT audition happened back in March 23, about four months before his episode aired. More impressively in November 13, 2023, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by singing with Jennifer Hudson on her talk show where they sang a duet of “Ain’t No Way” by Aretha Franklin, who is one of Reid’s favorite artists.
Reid comes from a supportive musical family. Some fans of another singing competition, The Voice, might recognize his older brother, Ryley Tate Wilson, who reached the show’s semifinals in 2023. Ryley was only 15 years old when he appeared in the blind auditions, singing “Dancing On My Own” and earning a chair turn from all four judges. If you watch Ryley’s audition, you can see Reid Wilson watching and cheering for his older brother off to the side, and the experience might have inspired him to audition for AGT 2024. Reid’s Instagram account is also managed by Ryley, so their musical success is a family affair.
What songs can America’s Got Talent Reid Thomas sing?
Reid has a short but sweet selection of soulful songs that he has shared mainly on his Instagram account.
These songs include “Praying” by Kesha, “Flower Shops” by ERNEST, “Golden Slumbers” by The Beatles, and “Impossible Dream” by Josh Groban. His brother Ryley has also sung and played duets with him for “ICU” by Coco Jones and “Call Out My Name” by The Weeknd. In these reels, Ryley is shown playing the guitar as well the piano. Given that Reid and Ryley have performed together many times, it’s also possible that we might see them as a singing duo in the future.
Reid has a very powerful voice in all of the songs he’s shared so far, so we might see any of them used for the upcoming live shows for Season 19. It’s unclear when exactly Reid will perform in the semi-finals, which begins on August 13 and runs through September 11. (The two-week delay in the AGT 2024 schedule is due to the 2024 Paris Olympics, as NBC will be airing Paris in Primetime throughout the event.) NBC has yet to reveal when each contestant who has successfully gotten through the auditions will appear, but we expect that the full assignments will be revealed after the Olympics are over.
It’s possible that Reid will be pitted against singer Pranysqa Mishra, who also earned the Golden Buzzer and has sung “Ain’t My Way” by Aretha Franklin in the past. Two other singers who have earned the Golden Buzzer, Liv Warfield and Richard Goodall, will also make the singing category quite stacked this season. Many other talented singers and singing groups have made it through to the semifinals as well, including Alex Sampson, boy band Menudo, Filipino singers L6, sibling band The Reklaws, and Dee Dee Simon.
