Is Darth Plagueis in Star Wars Acolyte?

The viewers want to know if Darth Plagueis is in Star Wars: The Acolyte, which premiered on Disney Plus on June 4, 2024. Darth Plagueis, also known as Darth Plagueis the Wise, was a Sith Lord and the master of Darth Sidious, who later became the leader of the Galactic Empire. A powerful wielder of the Dark Side of the Force, Darth Plagueis obsessively sought to escape death. The Acolyte takes place about a hundred years before Obi-Wan Kenobi meets a young Anakin in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. As this was the time when Darth Plagueis was active, fans are wondering whether he will appear in Star Wars: The Acolyte.

Here is everything we have discovered on whether Darth Plagueis will appear in Star Wars Acolyte.

Does Darth Plagueis Appear in Star Wars Acolyte?

No, Darth Plagueis will probably not appear in Star Wars: The Acolyte. None of the promotional material shows him, even though he is already an established character in the Star Wars canon.

We do see a masked red lightsaber wielder in one of the clips. The speculations about Darth Plagueis’ prospective appearance in The Acolyte likely from that. Red lightsabers are generally associated with the Sith, while the Jedi Order traditionally uses the blue and green ones, which had fans scrambling to figure out which evildoer will make an appearance. However, it’s possible that this mysterious lightsaber-wielder is an original character being introduced by the series.

If this individual is a Sith Lord, it will be interesting to see if The Acolyte establishes a relationship between them and Darth Plagueis. At this point in the timeline, Sith follow Darth Bane’s Rule of Two, which decrees that there must be no more two Sith Lords at any given time: a master and an apprentice. As mentioned above, Plagueis’ apprentice was Darth Sidious, who ultimately killed the former by 32 BBY. The canon is reportedly yet to clarify the birth year of Plagueis.

However, according to the Legends (formerly, Expanded Universe), Plagueis, who belonged to the humanoid species known as the Muun, was born sometime between 147 and 120 BBY. So, he may not have yet become a Sith during The Acolyte timeline, and this presumed Sith Lord in the series is perhaps a former apprentice of Plagueis’ eventual master, Darth Tenebrous.
