Fans expected to see deathclaws in the Fallout TV show because they’re one of the franchise’s most ferocious and iconic creatures. While we don’t see a direct encounter with a deathclaw during season 1, there are hints they may make it into season 2. Here’s what we know about the apex predator’s role in the TV series.
Are there deathclaws in the Fallout TV series?
You can see deathclaws in the Fallout TV show, but they’re not alive. A deathclaw skull appears in the final seen where Hank is walking toward New Vegas and you can see a second one in the credits.
According to series co-showrunner Graham Wagner in an interview with The Wrap, the team considered including deathclaws in the first season of Fallout but decided it would be jumping the gun:
“We wanted to get Deathclaws, but we didn’t want to just throw it away. It’s such a monumental piece (…) We want to save some something for Season 2 to be able to do it properly, not just added on to the massive world building we had to do already in Season 1. So Season 2, we’re very excited to finally tackle one of the most iconic elements of the games.”
So, we can look at the deathclaw skulls in the last episode as a teaser for what’s to come.
We see a creature nearly as lethal as a deathclaw during the first season. A yao guai appears and is able to easily take down a Brotherhood of Steel Knight in power armor. Given its ferocity, some might have mistaken it for a deathclaw, but it’s an entirely different species.
Given the Enclave’s experimentation with deathclaws in the games, we may see the mysterious faction deploy them as combatants. It’s even possible we may see another group of sentient deathclaws. With few details of season 2 released, we can only speculate how these monsters will appear for now.
