Marvel fans are about to get hooked on a feeling one last time with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the conclusion to James Gunn’s superhero movie trilogy. This new installment of Phase Five in the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings back our Guardians for one last adventure. With actors like Zoe Saldaña and Dave Bautista confirming this is their final MCU outing, some have begun to wonder if this is the last we’ll be seeing of the Guardians, and especially their leader Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). Fortunately, we now know whether Star-Lord dies at the end of the newest Marvel film.
Beware, spoilers lie ahead for the new film!
Is there a Peter Quill/Star-Lord death scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
No, Star-Lord does not die in the movie. However, he comes pretty close to it. During the climactic final action sequence, Star-Lord runs through the collapsing ship and finds himself trapped in outer space without his helmet. He runs out of oxygen and nearly meets his demise as the Guardians look on in horror.
However, to his surprise, Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) comes to his rescue and saves his life, redeeming himself for his actions at the beginning of the film. Star-Lord lives to see another day, but he decides to leave the Guardians of the Galaxy behind him. He appoints Rocket to replace him as their leader and returns to Earth to reunite with his grandfather, who he left behind decades prior.
As the final title card of the film reveals that Star-Lord will return, it is likely that we will be seeing more of Chris Pratt in the MCU, perhaps in future Avengers films and cameos in other Marvel movies. Rest assured, Adam Warlock’s rescue will lead to more appearances of the lovable hero with a catchy soundtrack.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.
