Frank Oz to Reprise Yoda in Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge

Ahead of its launch this coming November, ILMxLAB and Lucasfilm has officially announced that Star Wars alum Frank Oz is set to reprise his iconic role as Jedi Master Yoda in their highly-anticipated virtual reality adventure Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge. This announcement also came with the release of a new gameplay trailer which you can check out below, featuring our first look at the return of Oz’s Yoda!

“Yoda is one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars galaxy, thanks in large part to the incredible performance of Frank Oz.” director Jose Perez III said in a statement. “Working with Frank to weave Yoda into the fabric of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge was an unforgettable experience and a dream come true. I can’t wait for players to meet the Jedi Master face to face in our first exciting tale.”

Those who have attended Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge parks in either Anaheim or Orlando know that within Black Spire Outpost there is a place called Savi’s Workshop where you can build your own lightsaber, and part of the ceremony involves a force projection of Yoda, as voiced by Frank Oz. Therefore, his presence in the game has precedence in the actual park!

In Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, you’ll travel to the planet of Batuu and get caught up in your own unforgettable story. Fight alongside classic characters, and face intimidating villains, as you explore all-new regions and eras of the Star Wars galaxy. With multiple difficulty settings, Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge has been crafted for all types of players and fans.

The action-adventure virtual reality experience takes place on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the epic land at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. You’ll play as a droid technician operating near Batuu, but when a group of Guavian Death Gang pirates attack you’ll be forced to jettison the ship’s mysterious cargo and head for an escape pod. After crashing on Batuu, you’ll explore the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost, and learn how the actions of one person can change the galaxy.

“Stepping onto Batuu at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a genuinely magical experience,” producer Alyssa Finley said. “With Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, we’re expanding the story beyond Black Spire Outpost, giving players the chance to discover never-before-seen characters and locations. It’s an immersive adventure that can only exist in VR.”

In addition to the main storyline, players will also be able to step into a never-before-told short tale about a mysterious Jedi temple on Batuu, where they will encounter Yoda and a new Padawan, Ady Sun’Zee. Players will be able to take their adventures even further in Part II of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, scheduled for release in 2021
