SCUF Valor Pro Wired Controller Review: Affordable & Competitive

SCUF is best known for its top-notch customizable gaming controllers that are commonly used by those looking for a competitive edge in Call of Duty or other shooters. While these can typically run well over $200 for its most advanced models, the new SCUF Valor Pro Wired controller is an affordable version for Xbox and PC that still has all the functionality you need. This is one of the most value-rich wired gaming controllers currently on the market.

What’s most impressive about the SCUF Valor Pro Wired is immediately experienced as soon as you pick it up for the first time. While it mostly looks like a standard Xbox controller, there have been a number of small tweaks that make it an incredibly comfortable and compact controller. The bumpers have been contoured to allow players to easily transition to the triggers, and the player’s fingers naturally rest on the four back paddles, with the lower two being part of the handles. Throw in a wonderful grip that has been applied to the back, and you’ve got a comfy and sleek controller that looks as good as it feels.

As for the back paddles, players can create three different profiles for different games. This is all managed quickly on the hardware itself, so there is no need for an app or separate software. It does take a little bit to get used to, but it becomes second nature once you’ve done it a few times. If you want to disable the paddles, you can do that as well, so there’s a nice layer of customizability depending on your needs.

The thumbsticks and triggers are also top-notch. The hall effect sticks help prevent the drift that can occur over time with heavy use on normal controllers since they use magnets to detect movement. While these can sometimes feel a bit off compared to analog controllers, it all felt quite natural to me. Meanwhile, the triggers can easily be shortened via a toggle on the back, so if you want direct shots instead of having full analog triggers the choice is up to you.

My favorite small tweak that I really liked about the SCUF Valor Pro Wired was its audio controls. Near the audio jack are two scroll wheels: one controls the headset volume while the other mixes the game vs. voice chat audio. You can click in on each wheel, too, making it easy to mute your mic or headset. These are smart designs that come from SCUF’s years of experience and really help make this affordable controller feel like a premium product that is well worth upgrading from a standard controller.

SCUF Valor Pro Wired Controller Review: Final Verdict

For $99.99, it’s hard to find a better Xbox and PC controller for competitive play than the SCUF Valor Pro Wired. The remappable back paddles, comfortable form factor, and hall effect thumbsticks make sure it has everything a player could want in terms of functionality. Smart decisions, such as having audio scroll wheels and the ergonomic location of the paddles, make this an easy recommendation for anyone wanting to optimize their play.
