I have a new go-to Xbox and PC controller as the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro delivers everything I want with a sturdy build, six remappable buttons, and pro-level customization. I was already a fan of Razer’s controllers, as I currently use the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro for PlayStation 5, and this met all of my high expectations. Thankfully, this is a great next step up and a perfect alternative to the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2, which has seen complaints about broken bumpers and unresponsive face buttons.
Right from unboxing, the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro feels like a proper premium product. It arrives in a really nice carrying case that includes the wireless dongle and two alternate thumbsticks (one that is longer and another with a domed top). It also comes with a 10-foot USB C cable, which allows for wired play and the use of the optional PC tournament mode, which unlocks a 1000Hz polling rate and reduces input lag.
The most notable controller features are the four mouse click back paddles and two claw grip bumpers. While these were both in the V2 controller, the placement of the four paddles is much improved as rather than the center of the back of the controller, they’re placed around the back of the grips diagonally. It’s a much more comfortable and natural fit and allows players to execute their customized controls better than before.
Once again included are Razer’s HyperTriggers, which have two modes. By default, they operate with a full trigger pull, allowing you to have precise control in games where you wouldn’t always want to fully press down on the trigger (like a racing game, for example). However, if you activate a switch on the back, you can make either trigger operate as a mouse click, thus leading to instant triggers and an edge in getting shots off in shooters.
The thumbsticks are also excellent for Razer’s first wireless Xbox controller. Taking advantage of Hall Effect precision, it avoids any stick drift, and the sensitivity can be fully customized in the Razer Controller App. As always, Razer does a great job of building extremely durable products, and the sticks are made from pro-grade materials that haven’t shown any wear in my sessions. As previously mentioned, the thumbsticks are easily popped off and can be replaced with alternate ones if needed for your play style.
Like the V2, the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro comes with a really great 8-way floating d-pad. If I’m not using an arcade stick, I really enjoy this directional pad for fighting games. The way it is designed allows for precise directional inputs and feels great, letting players naturally roll into dragon punches or other inputs. I put in some rounds in Killer Instinct and had a great time with the controller.
Finally, I want to highlight the great customization options. The Razer Controller App, which is available both on Xbox and Windows, allows players to fully customize the thumbstick sensitivity, remap buttons, and create personalized profiles, so if you want the controller to operate one way for Call of Duty and another way for Overwatch, it’s that simple. You can also change the strength of the haptic vibration, which also boosts the already solid battery life.
Razer Wolverine V3 Pro Review: Final Verdict
Thanks to better paddle placement and other tweaks, the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro is a smart step forward from the V2. It’s the best Xbox controller you can own and has a premium feel in all areas. Extremely customizable, it’s great for pro players and those with a competitive streak, as it eliminates any chance of outside issues and makes sure matches come down to skill.
