Variety says that Electronic Arts (EA) has hired John Gatins (Real Steel) to develop a pitch for a movie based on the video game series “Need for Speed.” The trade says that Gatins and EA would produce the project with George Gatins writing the pitch.
Warner Bros., Sony and Paramount are said to be interested with Paramount being the frontrunner. Universal Pictures is not in talks for the property, given that it already has “The Fast and the Furious” franchise.
“Need for Speed” is the most successful racing video game series in the world, and one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. Over 100 million copies of games in the “Need for Speed” series have been sold.
The last game in the franchise, Need for Speed: The Run, was released on November 15, 2011 and features the voices of Sean Faris and Christina Hendricks (image left).
