Nintendo will unveil a new HD console at E3 in June, reports Game Informer, with the initial announcement possibly coming sooner about the Wii successsor.
The magazine says that, according to sources, the new console will be able to run games at HD resolutions, though it is unknown whether the system will be be backward compatible with the Wii or if it will even carry the Wii branding.
What is also unknown at this time is whether the graphics will surpass or fall short of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The new HD console should help Nintendo in getting more multi-platform titles like Portal 2 or Mortal Kombat, however.
The company is said to already be showing publishers the system to get them interested and give them time to start developing games for the system, which will reportedly be available in late 2012.
The magazine asked Nintendo reps about the possible HD console. “Nintendo does not comment on rumors or speculation,” the company said in reply.
