The world of Tokyo Ghoul is invading Beahviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight, as the company announced that the anime and manga’s Ken Kaneki is coming to the game as a killer.

Kaneki will arrive in Dead by Daylight on April 2, 2025, and will be a reimagined version of the character. In the world of Tokyo Ghoul, Kaneki is a college student who is transformed into a half-ghoul after an encounter with one of them. Throughout the series, he navigates life and various situations between humans and ghouls and struggles to hold onto his own humanity.
In the game, Kaneki’s torment at the hands of his ghoul, Jason, has pushed his mind to the brink, according to a post on the PlayStation Blog. “The humanity he fought so hard to retain is gone, replaced by a ghoulish desire for cruelty,” reads the description on the character. “His Kagune abilities, which manifest as deadly tentacles erupting from his back honed him into a preternatural instrument of death. Needless to say, Survivors have their work cut out for them – provided he doesn’t cut out their hearts first.”
In the blog post showing off the new character, Behaviour Interactive reveals the reason for changing Kaneki a bit to fit the style and world of Dead by Daylight. Instead of making him a survivor, the company says, it was “more interesting” to lean into the aspects of horror, and present an alternate reality where the character becomes what he’s trying not to be.
As a killer, Kaneki will be able to utilize his Kagune tentacles to attack survivors on the map, and use his mobility to close distances. Should his attacks be successful, he can enter an “Enraged Mode,” that lets him deal even more damage and catch players faster.
Dead by Daylight’s Tokyo Ghoul collab will also feature original voice lines from actor Natsuki Hanae, who portrays Kaneki in the anime series.
