Predator, Ghostbusters Game Dev Illfonic Hit With Layoffs

The Predator: Hunting Grounds and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed developer Illfonic has suffered layoffs. The company issued a statement today regarding the matter.

Illfonic CEO & Co-Founder issues statement regarding layoffs

The statement itself is short and to the point. Illfonic CEO & Co-Founder Charles Brungardt penned the update which was shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“Today we had to accept the harsh reality that the state of the industry has impacted us here at Illfonic,” says Brungardt. “It is with the heaviest of hearts that cuts to our teams had to be made today as we re-aligned to a refined strategy.”

Brungardt closes the statement asks those looking to hire talented developers to reach out so they can connect them to those affected by the layoffs. The full statement can be seen below.

Illfonic’s first game was 2012’s Nexuiz back in 2012. However, their popularity rose with its 2017 asymmetrical survival horror game Friday the 13th. This essentially opened the door to other licensed game opportunities within the niche multiplayer genre. This included Predator: Hunting Grounds, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game. The studio also developed Dead Alliance and Arcadegeddon.

Illfonic served as a support studio for several games including Armored Warfare, Crysis 3, Evolve, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, and Star Citizen.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is the studio’s most recent release which launched earlier this year. Our reviewer Tyler Treese gave it an 8.5. He said, “if you are a fan of the cult classic movie then Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is a no-brainer purchase. If you’re just a fan of multiplayer horror games, then it’s also an easy recommendation as you’ll get to learn about a fantastic property that has been underserved and have a great time doing so.”
