Assassin’s Creed Shadows Trailer Previews Immersive World of Feudal Japan

A new Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailer is out. It highlights the world of 16th-century feudal Japan that serves as the main setting for the next entry in the long-running franchise.

What is in the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailer?

The latest trailer is all about Japan, and serves more as a montage of what players can expect to see and experience while traveling throughout the game. Things like overgrown shrines in forests to villages sitting on the banks of rivers are shown off, as are some of the characters players will meet along the way.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release on November 15, 2024, and will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

In a blog post talking about the trailer, Ubisoft also describes some of the advancements in technology that they’ve strived for when making the game. In an effort to make this the “best-looking Assassin’s Creed ever,” the team behind the game added in ray-tracing illumination, tweaked ratios, and more.

“We’ve actually had some form of global illumination in Assassin’s Creed for years,” said Technology Director for the game Pierre Fortin. “But ray-tracing global illumination allows us to be much more dynamic.”

The blog post also details the aim for a “level of interactivity” that was never before seen in the franchise. A dynamic world with distinct seasons and weather is included in the game, and will also impact how players traverse and engage with things as they explore. Ubisoft mentioned things like missions have “environmental factors” based on the weather and time as something to look out for.

“We wanted a dynamic new feeling,” says Fortin. “Both at the micro scale and the macro scale, so that when you see a storm coming, you can adapt how you play the game, knowing that it’s going to make you stealthier when it’s time to sneak into that castle.”
