Boss Team Games has revealed it is making two new games based on John Carpenter’s Halloween, one of which Carpenter is intimately involved in.
The studio behind Evil Dead: The Game will develop two projects based on the 1978 slasher classic. The most eye-catching part is that one project will be developed in Unreal Engine 5 and include significant input from avid gamer, synth enthusiast, and legendary director John Carpenter.
Halloween game adaptation goes straight for the source
The press release states the games will allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.”
Carpenter, who is said to be intimately involved in the development, issued a brief statement on the news.
“As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly,”
“Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans,” Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris said of the collaboration. “Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.”
Boss Game Studios has licensed horror game previous. Evil Dead: The Game was a light, but effective multiplayer tribute to Sam Raimi’s gory, goofy horror franchise. It took characters and locations from the series and put a team of survivors up against a malevolent entity controlled by another player. The Deadite player could possess objects and players to before eventually appearing in physical form to finish them off. The survivors look to send the Deadites back where they belong in largely combat heavy ways.
John Carpenter is also involved in another game from Saber Interactive, the publisher of Boss Game’s Evil Dead. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando will see players take control of one of the commandos, team up with their friends, and send the Sludge God and its horde of things that should never be back to the underworld. It’s due out on PS5, Xbox, and PC, but still has no release date.
