Developer Free Range Games has announced a release date for The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria on Steam and Xbox Series X|S. On the same day the game becomes available for those platforms, The Golden Update will be released, which introduces crossplay, sandbox mode, and more.
When is the Return to Moria Steam & Xbox release date?
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria will be released on Steam and Xbox Series X|S on August 27, 2024. The game will be available on both platforms at a discounted price of $19.99 for a limited period of time.
The survival crafting game was released on Epic Games Store and PS5 last year and The Golden Update will be available for these platforms as well as Steam and Xbox. One of the main draws of the update is crossplay across all platforms, which can all host two-player games. However, Steam is a bit more special as these players can host 8-player sessions regardless of the platforms of joining players.
Sandbox mode was previously only available during the beta period on Epic Games Store. Now all platforms can make use of the game mode that generates game worlds with a wide variety of random seeds. Because of this, each playthrough in this mode can vary widely in layout and difficulty. The mode also has recipes for 14 new weapons and armor, such as a Wolf Skin Hat, Gondorian Shield, Khazad Halberd, and Barôkamlut. These can be transferred into campaign mode too.
The update also includes building improvements, tweaks to difficulty settings, more than 100 new building objects, the addition of ambient music, and the ability to pause while playing offline single-player games. Of course, there is also the usual round of bug fixes too, and the patch notes will be posted on the game’s website closer to the update’s release.
