Fortnite Developers Criticize New Tesla Cybertruck Reward

A new Tesla Cybertruck reward is available as part of today’s Fortnite update, but it seems that some people are unhappy about its addition. While it’s not unusual for players to criticize certain game features or cosmetics, a far more uncommon event is to have the game’s developers claim that “the truck looks f*****g silly” and encourage players to “destroy on sight.”

How to get the Fortnite Tesla Cybertruck

The Tesla Cybertruck is part of a bundle that can be earned by completing nine Fortnite Summer Road Trip Quests. The quests will unlock at a rate of one per day between today, July 23, and July 31. However, players have until August 6 to complete the quests and get all the rewards for free. To complete the tasks, players need to:

  • Earn a certain amount of XP (solo or with your party) in creator-made islands.
  • Earn a certain amount of XP with your party in Fortnite Battle Royale (includes normal BR, Zero Build, Team Rumble, and Reload), LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Fortnite Festival.

The Cybertruck skin is also eligible for cross-game ownership within Rocket League, which has its own Rocket League Summer Road Trip event with tasks that let players unlock the bundle there instead. Alternatively, the Tesla Cybertruck Bundle will also be available from the Fortnite Shop when update v30.40 arrives on August 6.

Not all of the game’s developers are happy to see the Cybertruck collaboration. Eurogamer spotted a developer who said, “Reminder that opinions are mine and mine alone. Destroy on sight [middle finger emoji],” before locking their X (formerly Twitter) account.

Meanwhile, Fortnite Festival producer Kyle Wynn said:

Players’ reception to the Cybertruck has been a bit more mixed. The Fortnite truck is unlikely to be bulletproof like its real-life equivalent, but some players were still excited to see the new vehicle. On the other hand, others have been a bit more brutal with their response. Jokes have ranged from whether it will “break down on the side of the road every five minutes” to “the Cybertruck doing stuff that would void its warranty irl.”
