Digital Eclipse has revealed a new beat ’em up Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind via a trailer shown during today’s Summer Game Fest show. The new title is meant to celebrate 30 years of Power Rangers video games with a brand new story blended with retro-inspired action and lore.
What platforms are Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind coming to?
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. While there isn’t a specific release date right now, the game will be released in late 2024.
Up to five players can morph into Power Rangers to take on a robotic reincarnation of long-time nemesis Rita Repulsa. Robo-Rita has traveled back in time through a portal to team up with her younger self and an army of monstrous enemies and defeat the Power Rangers once and for all. They’ll do this by rewinding, rewriting, and remixing the past to try to stop the formation of the Power Rangers and alter the course of history.
The game will feature online and offline co-op gameplay where players take on the roles of the Red, Yellow, Black, Blue, and Pink Rangers, who all have the ability to summon their powerful Zords. As well as the side-scrolling beat ’em up gameplay, the trailer showed instances of first-person shoot ’em up combat and racing along the city’s streets.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is being published under the Hasbro Retro Arcade label, which aims to “deliver a modern take on old-school arcade action based on world-class brands and characters.” SVP Digital Strategy and Licensing at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast Eugene Evans said he “can’t wait for fans’ reactions when revisiting iconic moments through this new, yet retro, gameplay.”
