After going on a hiatus of sorts last year, the platform fighter MultiVersus is officially ready to return, setting a new release date with new additions for fans to look forward to.
In a new video released on Monday, the developers behind MultiVersus confirmed the game would return on May 28, 2024. In the video, MultiVersus game director and Player First co-founder Tony Huyhn confirmed the news, saying he was excited for fans to see what the developer had done to go the game in the time since its break.
MultiVersus release will contain new characters, stages, and more
The reveal goes on to show off what fans can expect in MultiVersus when it returns, including concepts for new stages, enhanced visuals from the previous iteration due to a switch to Unreal Engine 5, and a tease for new characters.
Huyhn also confirmed that things like a new netcode, new PvE mode, and more would be arriving in the game in May, but didn’t offer up any concrete information.
Originally announced in 2021, MultiVersus was released as an early access/open beta title in July 2022. The game was originally set to exit the “beta” phase and launch fully in 2023. However, the game never left beta, and the early access portion of the game was eventually shut down in June 2023 so Player First could begin preparing for a 2024 release date.
At the time of its last playable iteration, MultiVersus featured 23 playable characters, nearly all of which come from various intellectual properties at Warner Bros. Discovery.
