Until Dawn Coming to PS5 and PC This Year in Enhanced New Version

Supermassive Games’ revered choice-based horror game Until Dawn is getting a new upgraded and enhanced version for PS5 and PC in 2024.

Ballistic Moon is handling the new version, built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. This is neither a full-on remake nor a remaster, as Ballistic Moon has overhauled the game with a new third-person and soundtrack among the changes.

You can see Until Dawn on PS5 in the short teaser trailer below.

Until Dawn PS5 Trailer

Until Dawn was released for PS4 in 2015, and featured future Oscar winner Rami Malek and Scream star Hayden Panettiere among its cast. The game saw a group of friends reuniting at a mountain retreat after the death of a friend a year earlier. The reunion turns sour when outside forces begin to hunt down the group one by one. Players make split-second decisions to affect who does and doesn’t survive the night, allowing a ”play-your-own horror movie” feel to the proceedings.

Here’s what Ballistic Moon’s Neil McEwan had to say about the changes to the game on the PlayStation Blog.

”Until Dawn has been rebuilt with the latest tools and techniques. New and improved animations build on the success of the original character performances. Characters, environments, and VFX have been upgraded – all for a truly enhanced cinematic horror experience.

We use a broader cinematic tonal color palette and new perspectives to make the story more nuanced and emotional. We’ve been brave enough to shine a light into the dark, unseen corners of Blackwood Mountain and added a third-person camera, which means you can now look behind the curtain of the original game, exploring enhanced and new locations with new interactions and collectibles.

Incorporating a third-person camera and adding contextual character movement animations, the game now allows the player to really feel the experience of that fateful night.

Until Dawn’s sound has undergone a massive overhaul too, featuring a new score from legendary horror composer Mark Korven.

We’ve endeavored to keep the fantastic narrative integratory of the original, but we have seized the opportunity to expand upon unexplored emotional parts of the story.”

An Until Dawn movie is also in the works with Lights Out and Annabelle Creation director David F. Sandberg.
