In honor of the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and the recent MAR10 Day, Nintendo announced that a new event for the mobile game Super Mario Run would be added to the game, allowing players to check out some of the game’s levels for free.
Every day during the event, the game — which is free-to-play but does lock most of its courses behind a paywall — will allow players to check out one stage that normally wouldn’t be playable without purchasing the game. Fans who link their Nintendo Account to the game can also play an additional stage for free.
Stages rotate daily, so for those looking to get the most out of the event, it seems like you’ll need to be checking into the game once a day. Alongside the event itself, Super Mario Run is also getting a discounted price up until May 30, 2023. From now until then, the game will be $4.99, a 50% discount from the game’s original $9.99 price.
Originally released in 2016, Super Mario Run is an auto-run game that sees players manipulating Mario to jump, slide, and duck around obstacles as you traverse through a variety of levels.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!) from a screenplay written by Minions: The Rise of Gru scribe Matthew Fogel. It is produced by Chris Meledandri for Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo.
The film features the voices of its all-star cast including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
