Kirby’s Dream Buffet Gameplay Breakdown Reveals Release Date

Kirby’s Dream Buffet Gameplay Breakdown Reveals Release Date

Kirby’s Dream Buffet‘s announcement came as a surprise, as it wasn’t obvious that Nintendo was making a party game around its round hero. That reveal trailer had some gameplay, but its new overview trailer has gone into greater detail and even narrowed down its release date. Kirby’s Dream Buffet will be coming out on Nintendo Switch on August 17 for $14.99.

This multiplayer party game supports up to four players online and offline, but only two people can play on a single system (four-player offline is only available locally through wireless play). It will also have three game types: Race, Minigame, and Battle Royale. Each has the central goal of eating the most strawberries and becoming the biggest Kirby, but the mode changes how that goal is achieved. Race is exactly what it seems and players who have eaten more strawberries will be able to push their opponents around more easily. Copy Food powerups also give users an attack they can use against others, like a high jump that’s also a stomp. Finishing first doesn’t automatically mean victory, as finishing first only gives more strawberries, which is the ultimate objective.

Minigame is, as its name implies, a collection of smaller modes. Players are crammed in a small arena and have to grab strawberries that fall from the sky or are locked in crates.

Battle Royale is not a mode where 100 Kirbys drop onto an island and have to murder each other as the play area gets smaller and smaller. Instead, it takes place on a medium-sized arena and players have to knock each other off into pits. Eating strawberries and the Copy Food abilities makes this even easier. Those who do fall into the abyss below lose their strawberries to the person who knocked them in. There’s also a Grand Prix mode that combines all three different modes into one gauntlet.

Strawberries are also tied to the meta unlock system. Players can unlock different cosmetics, colors, starting line pedestals, hats, and even additional stages with strawberries collected during gameplay.
