Project 007: IO Interactive Hires Audio Director for James Bond Game

The house that built Hitman has a new music man in their midst. Dominic Vega, a video game veteran with over a decade of experience, has joined IO Interactive to serve as audio director for Project 007. Vega has most recently worked as the lead sound designer for the dinosaur action game Second Extinction, and he’s also lent his talents to Just CauseRatchet & Clank, and other notable works.

In an official announcement on the team’s website, IO Interactive said that they’ve been looking for just the right person to realize the soundscape of James Bond’s iconic universe. Needless to say, they’ve found their man. Vega was also excited about working on the game, saying that Bond has “one of [his] favorite soundtracks of all time.”

IO’s James Bond game comes on the heels of a long gap in 007-related games and the renewed success of the Hitman trilogy. Bond’s last console outing was 2012’s 007 Legends, a seemingly rushed title pushed out at the end of Activision’s licensing deal. It generally received negative reviews and forced the rightsholders to reconsider their position in the gaming market, waiting things out until IO Interactive became the ideal candidate to revive the franchise.

Despite Bond’s recent absence from gaming, the superspy has an influential history in the medium. The legendary Goldeneye defined console FPS games in the 1990s, and several generations of consoles featured numerous side adventures for the famous spy. Considering that indie developers are now taking inspiration from Bond games of old, it only seems fitting that the franchise would return with a bang with IO at the helm.
